aloe_veraPamela Isley was a promising chemist employed by Bright pharmaceuticals a company in the business of developing medicines and cures for many of the world's greatest ills.
While she was joined by other similarly intelligent individuals Dr. Isley stood out as the conscience of the company. Persuasive in her arguments she time and again tore down ideas that either had the potential to hurt people or the planet itself. In her mind they were there to save the world not plunder it.
There was a co-worker of hers that disagreed. A Dr. Jason Woodrue was someone whom had money on his mind and didn't care how it came about. He felt that so long as Pamela was there then they would always be making less than they could of. If she was just gone then he could convince the higher-ups to stop their "foolish" practices off conservation and ethical testing.
His plan came in the form of the latest project Pamela was leading. Cures for fatally poisonous plants. Dr. Woodrue sabotaged her equipment such that when she was alone working with the extracts of these dangerous plants an explosion occurred. Shards of broken glass cut open her skin letting the extract that sprayed onto her enter her body. It should have killed her.
She was knocked out from the blast and rushed her to the hospital. They did everything they could, but as far as they could tell she would soon die from the cocktail of poisonous plants. However things didn't go as expected. The mix of plant extracts caused a change in Pamela. She became as people would come to call her, Poison Ivy.
Along with a host physical changes not the least of which was her greening skin Pamela realized she had some sort of connection to the plant life around her. She received impressions from them almost like thoughts. Pain, happiness and suffering she felt all these things and more. It was overwhelming at first until she could learn to accept these new feelings.
As she became accustomed to these changes she learned she could move the plant life around her and even mold it. She had access to a whole new host of chemicals her plants could replicate.
At some point she took to fighting crime in Gotham. It was clear to see and while The Joker certainly did his share there was always more to be done.
Unlike other heroes she couldn't exactly hide who she was so she embraced it. As her prominence as a hero rose she branched out to other parts of the world and she used her rising fame to help her environmentalist ideals. While she always had some interest in saving the planet now the planet was part of her and she put much of her time in trying to keep it safe with the help of a world populace that had come to respect her.
Eventually she came to join the beginnings of a group that would come to be known as the Justice League. She joined the likes of other heroes like Alexander "Lex" Luthor, The Joker, Sinestro and others.
Now financed some by the League it was easier for Poison Ivy to travel the world. As she did she found herself clashing with a new enemy. An Amazonian named Diana who believed that the practices of her people should be extended the world over. Diana would use any means necessary to spread the Amazonian way of life. Even by force. Ivy or other heroes would always rise to the occassion to stop her of course.
